The Steel Valley Catholic Community is a grouping of eight parishes (eight churches) - Christ the Light of the World (Holy Name ), Holy Trinity, Resurrection, St. Agnes, St. Joseph, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Rita, and St. Therese - in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
The churches, under the leadership of Pastor Father E. Daniel Sweeney, merged into one parish by July 1, 2020. Father Dan is assisted by a team of priests, deacon and staff.
The merger is part of the On Mission for the Church Alive! initiative undertaken by the Diocese of Pittsburgh in which churches throughout the diocese have been placed in groupings with the ultimate goal of merging into single parishes.
All are welcome and encouraged to join us!
In 2019, the youth group from St. Thomas the Apostle Parish group had an idea to open and operate a haunted house. Originally a donation based haunt, these kids put together the start of something extraordinary and those donations help fund their mission trips to Appalachia to build and rebuild housing for those less fortunate.
In 2020, with COVID threatening to shutter the doors, the group persevered and stayed open with strict CDC guidelines in place, this allowed them to accomplish the set fundraising goals and additionally helped to brand the haunt further.
In 2021, the haunt doubled in size, scope and professionalism. Bringing in professional creative directors and set designers has allowed what once was the Haunted School become "Portals of Fear" . The haunt now compares to other known haunts in the area.
Now in 2023, and we have expanded yet again. We invite you to come by and experience the Portals of Fear for yourself!
